Started in 2009, VIDEO:WRK – Surabaya Video Festival is a biennial video festival held by WAFT, an institution focuses on art development and technical-creative projects at Surabaya, Indonesia. VIDEO:WRK as one of its agendas celebrates the role of technology in art elaboration, especially video, in the scope of both national and international.

The essence of video begins from the process of capturing, recording to reconstructing a sequence of moments or still images representing scenes in motion. VIDEO:WRK #02 focuses on non-narrative video. However, the festival presents a large variety of experimental videos, reconstruction, visual strategy, text visualization and recording manipulation. In short, it explores any possibilities from camera as a medium of creativity.

VIDEO:WRK #02 provides a forum for film maker and video artists to gather and explore video as a way to communicate different aesthetic strategies and conflicts among individual and community.

/ PREI NANG THAI (Holiday in Thailand) is a series of presentation, workshop, and sound project from Debrina Tedja and Helmi Hardian (H/A/D).

This program presented by WAFT LAB - Indonesia in conjunction with JIANDYIN - Thailand, Tao Hong Tai : DKunst and Chulalongkorn University -Thailand.

/ NO:WORK National Observation Work is a periodical event focusing on education. From workshop, seminar, presentation, and forum, anything that's educating is in.

We invite practitioner from various disciplines to share and teach for the benefit of knowledge development.

/ VJ / VISUAL JOCKEY / creates or manipulates visuals in realtime through technological mediation in synchronization to music. It implies realtime processing material from storage media such as tapes, disks, video, still images, live camera input, or computer generated visuals. The idea of VJing came from art forms that deal with synesthetic experience of vision and sound. It created a certain challenge that audio and visual have to relate together in each section as well as the whole set.

People used to think video as decorations. However, the rise of visual performance in the new century has brought new dynamics to its practice. The availability and affordability of new consumer-level technology allowed many more people to get involved into VJing. This sense of collective then translated from the virtual world onto physical spaces and becomes apparent through numerous festivals with strong focus on VJing.
